All about Tejas Express: Digital New Interiors, Yummy Catering Onboard

Indian Railways dates back to one of the oldest heritage.  It has come a long way from ordinary passenger trains and goods carrier or cargo trains to making bullet trains and super fast trains to the present day. Now the latest venture of the Indian Railways is a peek into the future.

The Tejas Express is a dream project of Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister. It operates on the route between Mumbai and Goa. This express train known as the ‘Tejas Express’ travels at the speed of 130 km/hour and could even go higher.

What’s New about Tejas Express?

If you are thinking that this is another express on another route then read on about the facilities offered in the Tejas Express. The Tejas Express also has doors that open and close automatically.

This is similar to few of the metros that ply on some routes in India. There are more than a dozen carts, fourteen to be precise, that comfortably seat 72 passengers in each. These non – executive chairs are seated in a 3+2 seats row configuration.

These chairs have fordable snack desks that make it a more enjoyable journey. The inside paint will match that of the outside which means that it would give an overall look.

There are LED energy efficient lights in the interior coaches. There are electronic passenger reservation boards and digital destination boards. The Tejas Express offers free Wi-Fi to its respective passengers.

There will be 9 inches infotainment screen sized LCDs. There are USB Chargers also available. These will be to give information as well as for entertainment purpose.

There are two exclusive Executive Chair Cars that have a 2+2 seating configuration that comfortably seat 56 passengers. The seats in the Executive Chair Cars come with extra comfort. These include armrests, headrests that can be adjusted as per your comfort needs and leg support like in the aircraft's too.

In the non – executive chair car, the middle-seated chairs will soon be installed with the infotainment LCDs like the others.

The Tejas Express is visually challenged friendly as it has Braille displays. Also, the toilets feature the latest world class amenities including a liquid soap dispenser. You can also have a hand wash or face wash without touching any taps to turn up the water.

There are sensor taps and sensor hand dryers too. Moreover there are water level indicators inside the toilets apart from bio- vacuum toilets. This ensures that there is no water wastage as it only requires 1.5 liters of water for each flush.

Yummy Foods with Attendant Features

 

There’s more to the onboard train journey facilities. There are tea / coffee vending/ soup machines, hot water boiler dispenser, heating chamber, refrigerator box and chilling unit. Magazines available for those who like to read while travelling.

There is a yummy cuisine served on the train apart from snack counters. The best part is that the catering facilities are included in the fares similar to the famous Rajdhani Express and the Shatabdi Express. There is another unique feature of the Tejas Express which is the attendant call button at each berth. There is a bell at the push of a button at the berth reading light.

Finally, there is advanced fire detection / response system so, if there is smoke rising above a level the train stops for safety reasons.
