Interesting Facts about Golden Chariot Train

The Golden Chariot, one of the most luxurious trains in India, travels through natural treasures of South India. Golden Chariot will show you the architectural wealth of South India too. The Golden Chariot is a joint endeavour between the Indian Railways and KSTDC (Karnataka State Tourism and Development Corporation).

The interior design of the train is a great combination of contemporary and traditional patterns to highlight the old world along with the modern comforts. The Golden Chariot derives its name from the stone Chariot in the Vitthala Temple at Hampi.

History of Train

The Golden Chariot is the outcome of joint venture of KSTDC and the Indian Railways. Being inspired by Rajasthan Tourism and Development Corporation, which introduced the Palace On Wheels, KSTDC inaugurated South India's first and only luxury train-the Golden Chariot.

The engineers finalized the design of the Golden Chariot through 900 layouts. Here the contribution of architect Kusum Pendse can't be denied. He and his 200 skilled carpenters worked hard for creating the beautiful design of the coaches.

Train Facilities

Facilities onboard Golden Chariot are similar to Five Star luxury hotel. The train is decorated with the state of the art facilities. Modern facilities include luxurious cabins, multi cuisine restaurants, a relaxed lounge, conference car and health spa. If you want to relax at well-furnished luxury saloons or if you want to have supper in exquisitely decorated restaurants or to sweat at mini gym, the train offers all those facilities.

The train is designed in such a way that you won't lack for anything onboard. Additionally, you can avail wi-fi, LCD television, central air conditioning and writing desk. The train has Ayurvedic spa-Arogaya, a business centre and Mandira-a bar lounge.

Awards

Golden Chariot has won awards as one of the seven best luxury rail journeys in the world. The Vanity Fair Magazine had offered this award to the Golden Chariot within 4 years of its inception. Moreover, the Golden Chariot has won Asia's Leading Luxury Train in 2013 at the World Travel Awards.

Restaurants on Wheels

Nala and Ruchi are two multi-cuisine restaurants of the Golden Chariot. Being inspired by mythological texts, these two restaurants are designed. The architectural aesthetics of Halebid and Hampi influence the interior design of the restaurants.

The exquisitely designed restaurants enhance the aroma of delicious cuisines served to the guests. The dishes are of vegetarian and non-vegetarian both.

Themes

The theme of the Golden Chariot is inspired by the rich craftsmanship of the Hosalya temple of the 14th century. The architectural aesthetics of Halebid and Hampi influence the interior design of the restaurants.

Guest Carriages

Out of 44 well-furnished cabins, 26 cabins are twin bedded, 17 are double bedded and 1 is the disabled friendly cabin. The cabins are equipped with modern facilities including

  • LCD television,
  • DVD player
  • Fully air-conditioned cabins.
  • Dressing table / Writing desk.
  • The bathroom is equipped with all necessary toiletries and is attached to the coach.
  • Each room has good storage space, such as cabinets, for storing luggage.
  • The chalets in each room are equipped with side tables, desks and electrical outlets.

Entertaining Facility Onboard

The train offers various entertainment facilities including Wi-Fi, LCD television, writing desk, DVD player, central air conditioning etc. In addition to this, a lounge bar-Mandira- is a place to relax after a tiring long day of travelling. It has a wide collection of wines from which you can choose your favorite one. There is a Conference Car, where business deals take place. Health spa allows you to relax with Ayurvedic massages. You can sweat at mini-gym onboard.
