The Victoria Express
Traveling on the Victoria Express is a lesser-known, but must-try experience. This luxurious sleeper train will elevate your trip to Northwestern Vietnam to new heights. During peak travel season, Victoria Express train seats can be fully booked.
You’ll start your journey among the temples and centuries-old charm of Hanoi, winding your way through enchanting mountains, gleaming terraced farmlands, and traditional villages. The train itself is a grand affair, with an elegant dining carriage serving delectable meals and fine wines and two luxurious sleeping carriages that can accommodate up to 48 passengers.
Each carriage has two deluxe cabins, eleven superior cabins, and one snack cabin, and can accommodate up to 52 people. The deluxe class has two bedrooms per cabin, while the superior class has four bedrooms per cabin.
Prepare to be amazed by the grand interior design of wooden furniture once you enter your compartment. Red curtains, a white blanket, and pillows have a strong modern Indochina influence. Rovos Rail Train Fare
Rovos Rail has extended their popular Cape Town route to three nights. The current two-night rates begin at R26 500 per person sharing and will be in effect until October 1, 2022. The new rate will be R31 700 per person sharing, which includes additional meals and excursions.
The Blue Train
Many people in the region regard the Blue Train as one of the most elegant modes of travel. The Blue Train has won the hearts of generations of train enthusiasts by providing first-rate services at a leisurely pace. Southern Africa is blessed with dramatic scenery and although there are many routes to choose from, by far the most popular and most frequent route is the Blue Train to Cape Town and Pretoria.
Travelers will be relieved to learn that the Blue Train has WiFi access, but be aware that cellular connectivity is not the best! It is everything a luxury train should be. Inside the gleaming blue carriages, polished-wood corridors are lined with individual cabins.
The cabins have pull-down beds that can be kept down during the day if you want to nap after lunch; each cabin has a butler who is your main point of contact for any orders. Dinners include crusted Camembert salmon and sweet potato, fillet steak, and vegetable ratatouille to finish. There is a hot breakfast, a buffet-style lunch, and afternoon tea and cake.
Blue Train tickets start at $2100 USD per person sharing for the two-night route to Cape Town. Kruger National Park has a seasonal return trip. The train runs weekly between Cape Town and Pretoria. Seasonal discounts are available on blue train tickets.
